Maternal mortality in India is on the decline after the government introduced programs and initiatives under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
We saw how India still has the second highest number of maternal deaths in the world. However, since 1990, due to government led efforts, maternal mortality has declined by 69%, from an estimated 152,000 deaths to 45,000 in 2015. This significant feat was achieved due to various programs set up by the government as well as NGOs. Let’s take a look at some of these unique government programs targeting rural India.
